Obtaining Florida Marriage Records

Obtaining Florida marriage records is a simple process if you know the proper procedure. The first determining factor in how to go about retrieving the Florida marriage license you’re looking for is what year the marriage in question occurred. All marriage licenses administered prior to June 6, 1927 may only be obtained from the county Clerk of Court where it was originally issued. Any Florida marriage license dated June 6, 1927 or later may be obtained from the Office of Vital Statistics.

Retrieve a Florida Marriage License

Retrieving a marriage license in Florida will require a fee of $5.00 for the first certification and then $4.00 for each additional certification of the same record. The $5.00 is collected to cover the record search, and as such it is not refundable in the event that the marriage record is not located. However, duplicated copy fees will be refunded in the event that a marriage record cannot be found. If it can’t be located, they will instead issue a certified “not found” statement. Currently there are no restrictions on ordering records of marriage in Florida.

If you would like to order Florida marriage records by mail or by phone/fax, be sure to include a signed application including the following information:

  • Full name of the husband and wife listed on the marriage certificate (if both names are not available, one name is acceptable)
  • Date of marriage (If the exact date is unknown, at least the year must be stated. To have additional years searched will cost an extra $2.00 per year)
  • City or county where the marriage license was originally issued

Also be sure to include your full name, mailing address, and telephone number with your request. Payment may be made in the form of check or money made payable to:
